About

We are committed to building positive futures for every child who starts their life in a Kenyan prison.

What does life look like for a child who spends their early years in prison?

In Kenya, if a woman who is imprisoned has a child below the age of four, the child is allowed to accompany her, into a penal environment built for the incarceration of adults.

This happens regardless of whether or not the mother is convicted. More than 40% of the women who are currently in prison are on remand, still waiting for their trials to begin. During this time, the child remains with her, in the same basic conditions.

There is little nutritional, clothing or educational provision for the needs of this child and she will be dependent on family members to deliver diapers, clothes, milk or fruit, perhaps many miles from their community.

Meet Our Little Humans

To protect the identities and privacy of those we work with, we will not be sharing the actual names and photographs of our little human’s faces. But we really wanted to introduce them to you, so we asked our children (or their mothers) to draw what they think they look like.

Meet Our Little Humans

To protect the identities and privacy of those we work with, we will not be sharing the actual names and photographs of our little human’s faces. But we really wanted to introduce them to you, so we asked our children (or their mothers) to draw what they think they look like.

These are the self-portraits of our little ones.

What would you hope for this child?

A good meal? A change of clothes? A classroom? A safe place to play?

These children lack basic amenities, eating the same meals every day for months. Often from the same plate as their mother. Some of them only get 1 litre of milk a week. Most of them do not have enough diapers, clothes or shoes. And some of them have no safe place to learn or play.

This has an impact on their growth and development, affecting their physical and emotional welfare, as well as their social and educational needs, and their hope of a better future.

YOU
CAN MAKE
ALL THE
DIFFERENCE.

Together we can help

Every week we provide

a box of cereal, fruit, vegetables, diapers, soap and other childcare items for one child.

It costs KES 310 (USD 2.55)

to look after one child for a day. This amount provides a child with: three warm and nutritious meals; two snacks; enough milk and diapers; childcare items; and ensures the children are as comfortable as they can be in a prison environment.

KES 9300 (USD 76.35)

This is the cost to look after one child for an entire month.

You can make a difference to these children today and build a brighter future for their tomorrow.

“The visions we offer our children shape
the future. It matters what those visions
are. Often then become self-fulfilling
prophecies.

Dreams are maps.”

-Carl Sagan
